Sending Hope in a Shoebox

 Our Life Mission shoebox project is not affiliated with any other shoebox ministry.

For shipping shoeboxes directly to Our Life Mission in Romania, the shoeboxes should be shipped the first week in October in order to be received in time for Christmas.

Packing a Shoebox for Romania

There are so many things you can pack in a shoebox, but there are also a few things that should not be included to prevent the contents of the box from getting damaged in transport or held up in customs.

 

 

Don’t forget the baby/toddler departments when you’re shopping and remember to look for items older children would like, too.

Inappropriate Items NOT to pack:

  • Anything breakable – i.e. made of ceramic or glass
  • Used or worn items
  • Aerosol cans
  • Knives

 

Age Ranges

When packing each shoebox please clearly mark age and sex.

 2 to 4

 5 to 9

 10 to 14

What you can pack:

School Supplies:

  • pens
  • pencils and sharpeners
  • crayons
  • markers and colored pencils
  • stamps and ink pad sets
  • writing pads or paper
  • solar calculators
  • coloring and picture books
  • colored construction paper
  • small spiral notebook
  • stickers
  • erasers
  • foam shapes {with sticky backs}
  • blunt edge scissors or hole punch
  • highlighters
  • chalk
  • pencil bag/box
  • watercolor paints (but not liquid paint pots)

Toys:

  • miniature cars/trucks/trains/airplanes
  • miniature people/dolls/action figures.
  • balls deflated soccer balls—- boys love this one.
  • dolls or stuffed animals
  • musical instruments: kazoos, harmonicas, clappers, whistles, bells, maracas, small tambourine
  • yo-yos
  • jump ropes
  • small Etch A Sketch®
  • jacks
  • marbles
  • toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries)
  • Slinky,® etc.
  • Playdough
  • brand new kids’ meals toys
  • small block sets
  • mini foam gliders
  • paddleballs
  • mini board games (Connect Four, checkers, chess, etc.)
  • card games (like Memory or Uno)
  • plastic toy animals
  • bouncy balls
  • rubber ducks
  • Rubik’s cube
  • Silly putty
  • Small puzzles
  • spinning tops
  • princess wand
  • plastic tea set

Hygiene Items: (great for all boxes)

  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • mild bar soap (in a plastic bag)
  • comb or brushes
  • washcloth
  • compacts {better if not actual glass}
  • lip balm
  • bandages
  • tissues

Clothing/Accessories:

  • t-shirts
  • socks
  • underwear
  • gloves
  • hats
  • sunglasses
  • hair clips/headbands/bows
  • toy jewelry
  • watches
  • purses or drawstring bags

Other:

  • Tooth brush and tooth paste
  • thick plastic cups
  • plastic shoebox {rather than cardboard} so they can repurpose it
  • flashlights (with extra batteries)
  • hard candy/suckers/gum/mints/Starburst/Sweet Tarts
  • Chocolate candies 
  • small blanket
  • tool kits – bolts, nuts, nails, hammer, screwdriver, screws, measuring tape, level
  • Duct tape
  • sewing kit – needles, pins, thread, scissors, bright fabric
  • compass
  • collapsible water bottle

John and Rita added SOMETHING SPECIAL:

  • American bubble gum 
  • Small bags of candies- skittles, m&ms, ect etc
  • Boys love soccer balls you can deflate a ball and it packs in the shoebox 
  • Girls love dolls
  • Dress shirt for boys or a t shirt 

Remember:

  • Note the age-range intended for your box.
  • Note whether it is for Male/Female

Have a heart to help the elderly this year with a shoebox?

Wrap the shoebox with newspaper so we can identify the shoebox as an elderly gift.
